UNAPHAC is a non-profit making organization that was officially created in 1996. It sets out six main objectives, namely :
· To bring together Associations and Institutions of/and for Disabled
Persons in Cameroon;
· To harmonize their actions;
· To contribute towards the intellectual, physical and moral fulfilment of disabled persons;
· To see to the representativity of disabled persons at; decision-making bodies both at the national and international level;
· To promote the information, sensitisation, training, socio-economic integration and the defence of the interests of disabled persons;
· To encourage the affiliation of legally recognized associations and institutions to UNAPHAC.
Its main driving force is Mr ONDOUA AI I Gabriel, a High School teacher. Mr ONDOUA ABAH Gabriel became disabled after a quinimax injection. Very early in life, he started the crusade which he leads against misery, exclusion and all forms of injustice and frustrations faced by disabled persons with determination and obstinacy. Mr ONDOUA ABAH is also the National President of the Association of the physically Disabled and Amputees of Cameroon (AHMAC); Executive Director of the National Union of Associations and Institutions of and/for Disabled Persons in Cameroon (UNAPHAC); President of the Central African Federation of Organizations for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Disabled Persons (FACAPH). Appointed United Nations expert on disability related problems in 1991, he is also an elected member of the World Council of Disabled Peoples International (DPI). He has already taken part in about forty international meetings more as a speaker than a simple delegate. These meetings always have to do with the problems of disability or human rights. He holds several end-of-training attestations in this domain.
